Life in an aquarium.

Day-to-day goings-on.

August 03, 2005

Life just got a little suckier.

I just lost the last three years of my life. My law school notes, exams, papers, all gone. And Windows blows chunks. And not just the little chunks you find in sour milk. These are the great heaping sopping wet chunks of pizza crust you vomitted up after your tenth rum and coke.

    What???

    Oh no!!

I am sure it can be recovered from your hard drive. I'll ask my bro-in-law for you.

(erm, you didn't back it up?)

Had older back-ups, but lost the disks with all the moving I've done.

I wrote the files to CD, forgot to verify the copy was good. Formatted the hard drive--several times. Now it turns out the files are corrupted. File sizes are really close to the original and I can still see the files and directories so they're mostly there. A trial version of a data recovery program recovered some of them, but I've got to find a better solution.

Anyway I mention all this because it makes a difference that the corrupted files are on CD and not on the hard drive because they each use a different file system. In case you do tell the bro-in-law.

My other half swears Bill Gates has "666" tatooed on his butt and spends his days laughing hysterically about all the computer crashes....and of course XP wants to document every single one of them so Billy Boy can laugh even more
